An interview with St. Bernard Sports (Plus win a $100 Gift Card!)

Today we have a little bit of a different guest post as we highlight another great company dedicated to helping people find gear that fits them and their outdoor lifestyle.  While St. Bernard Sports is far from us here in the West (with stores located in Texas), they do have an online shop.  I love getting a glimpse of outdoor life beyond my own familiar settings here in our area of the country, and so I invited SBS to answer some questions and tell a little more about who they are.  They are way more than an online store front (and I think their answers will help show you why.)

Any Southwest readers that have personally made it into St. Bernard Sports?  I would love to hear your experiences with them!

Make sure to read all the way to the end of the post to link up to some gear reviews we did thanks to SBS AND (even better) a giveaway for a $100 gift card to their shop.

Can you tell our readers a little bit about who St. Bernard Sports is as a company and who you cater to?  (when began, where store locations are, etc.)
St. Bernard Sports has been one of the Southwest’s premier ski & snowboard specialty shops since 1978. We started our Dallas, TX shop with an unparalleled effort on customer service and continue to make that our main focus today. We have grown to have 2 store locations in Dallas and one in Austin, TX. In addition to a fantastic selection of snowsports equipment and apparel, we also offer an outstanding line of footwear and fashion apparel for life in Texas.

As you know, there are a ton of online shops specializing in quality outdoor gear.  What makes you different?
Our ski & snowboard experts and customer service staff are among the most knowledgeable in the country. We focus on the latest snowsports developments and annually receive training on the latest equipment and apparel innovations from industry experts. This helps create a shopping experience based on education. We don’t want our customer to know just what types of products are best for them, we want them learn why a certain product is best for them personally so that they can make the right decision. Our hassle free return policy ensures that even if a customer is not satisfied with their purchase, we are happy to exchange it for something they will be delighted to use.

Do you do the majority of your sales online or in your stores?
The majority of our sales take place in our stores, but St. Bernard Sports has dedicated significant resources to growing its online web presence and sees great opportunity ahead. Being able to draw inventory from our several brick and mortar stores means that St. Bernard Sports is poised to offer a large selection of products at great prices while offering unmatched product knowledge and customer service. The ease of use and availability of our website means that customers can find a great deal 24/7.

What is your top-selling brand/item?
The North Face Women’s Osito Jacket has always been a favorite of our customers, whether for personal use or as a gift. It’s a lightweight yet warm zip up fleece jacket that is suitable for fall or winter wear. Since it comes in a wide variety of cool colors, it’s easy to find a style that a relative, significant other or friend will enjoy. We also sell large amounts of items that are exclusive to St. Bernard Sports from brands such as Southern Tide and Vineyard Vines.

We’re finally heading into fall here in the mountains out west.  Any top-picks for cold weather that you have?  (Men, Women and Kids)
We are particularly excited about the new Canada Goose Hybridge line. These men’s and women’s jackets, vests and hoodies feature warm down filling and lightweight shells, and best of all they are fully adjustable to help you keep out the cold.

Kids have always been drawn to the unique prints and colors of the Obermeyer line, and parents appreciate the high quality, low price options for ski pants, bibs, accessories and jackets. Obermeyer even has great products for toddler boys and girls, so we are extremely confident this brand will have something that will protect your child while still protecting your wallet.
Thank you so much! I learned so much more about your St. Bernard Sports AND what gear is out there and available.  You can also find St. Bernard Sports on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
Over the past couple months, we have been putting a couple of jackets from St. Bernard Sports through the tests of a busy, outdoor family.  Both jackets (The North Face’s Venture for Women and Patagonia’s Puff Ball Jacket) come highly recommended by St. Bernard Sports and now from us. $100 Gift Card to St. Bernard Sports Giveaway

This giveaway is co-sponsored by St. Bernard Sports and Effective Spend, an internet marketing agency in Austin, TX, who manages St. Bernard Sports’ search engine optimization and online marketing efforts. To facilitate a product review, my family received a Patagonia Puff Ball Jacket and The North Face Women’s Venture Jacket.  However, as always, the opinions expressed here are completely and honestly our own.

  7. Wool socks! If my feet are cold, the rest of me is cold.

  8. christopher sorel says:

I have to say it is my layer approach I have done with a Polo RLX goretex shell that is over 13 years old and then I put on a fleece. I have 3 grades of fleece a think base layer I always were then depending on how cold it is I will either where my north face thermal fluffy fleece or just my Patagonia medium weight fleece.

  9. We’re currently in Florida but take frequent winter trips up north and I love my North Face Broadway jacket – it’s super warm but still gives you a decent looking shape.

  10. NeKisha Rowe says:

I have to say my favorite piece of gear would be wool socks. I love that they are breathable and super warm. Nothing beats them at keeping out the cold, I think.

  11. I’ve got to say Columbia fleece pullover and knit hat. You’re just not going to be feel warm if your head is freezing.

  12. It’s hard to decide what I love more – my arcteryx shell or my smart wool socks. Either way, I don’t want to leave home in the winter without both!

I never have to worry if I am going to freeze my tush off at the crag, sitting by the fire, or hiking in the woods! It fits so well, I can layer underneath if needed (but never really needed because it’s SO warm!), and I can fit my helmet underneath if I am outside climbing on a blustery day!

  24. I picked up some Mountain Hardware Dry-Q pants and they’re doing the trick right now!

  25. Patagonia is my favorite brand for outdoor clothing. Their shapes fit me so well! It’s always daunting finding new gear because the cost makes it risky on the chance I’ll hate it. That’s why I really value outdoor shops like St. Bernard Sports that are brick and mortar and have really clever and helpful people working there. Boom! Makes my decision a cinch!
