How Can you Carry Your Kids? Let me count the ways! + Deuter Giveaway

More than anything else, people find this blog when they are searching for ways to carry their kids and get outside.  It’s the biggest dilemma parents face, especially when children are young.

The only way you can really continue getting outside and moving after kids is with the right gear.  Note: I didn’t say it had to be expensive gear, just gear that makes the experience enjoyable for everyone.  If you are uncomfortable, there is a good chance your kids are too.

Since I get asked the question (very) often about what I recommend, I thought I would link everything together here in one post.  Note: this link up does not include trailers or strollers of any kind, though we have a couple of those kind of reviews in the pipes that will be posted shortly!

    • For babies (7 pounds – 45 pounds) and the best general carrier for comfort: Boba 3G
    • For traveling (or backpacking) where you just want to be able to carry a kid that is over 15 pounds (no gear): Boba Air
    • For extended hiking or skiing: Deuter Kid Carrier II (though the III is really great if you have tall kids); Osprey Poco or Kelty Pathfinder (I listed all three because they are all excellent, comfort really is a personal preference and I always recommend trying them on – see more information here!)
    • For traveling or quick trips for kids aged ~9 months to 2 years: Deuter KangaKid
    • For traveling or quick trips for bigger kids (3+) that need a rest while hiking or walking: Piggyback Rider

what fab information and giveaway. we LOVE carriers at our house. we use moby wrap for newborn, ergo when a bit bigger, and a kelty pack for hiking/yard projects/ect. our kelty is a “well-loved” hand-me-down and it would be great to get something newer and updated!

thanks for all the great info!

Great site! With a 4, 2, and 10 month old I am always looking for sites like these! Thanks.

      3. Hi!
Is the Kangakid really good up to 2 years old? I thought the 33lb weight limit would only last to 18 months or so… average kid in mind of course…
        thx
        Shira

        • Hi Shira – yes it really does work until they are 2. Most 2 year olds have not hit that 33 pound mark yet…. but, it definitely depends on the kid! I would go with the weight over the age if you are trying to determine if it will work! Our 4 year old is about 36 pounds and even at 3 when he was about that weight, he was too big for it.
