Beyond Coastal Sun Care {Review + Giveaway}

Beyond Coastal Review + Giveaway

Being in Florida certainly has its advantages this time of the year (and limitations too, no doubt about that, missing the snow is a sentiment that comes and goes). It’s Spring break time down here – we’re already enjoying some mild beach weather, near-perfect pool weather and beautiful days at the park. One side-effect, however, of our fun in Florida is extra sun exposure. I’m a believer in protecting our skin from the sun’s damaging effects and since this family spends a lot of time outdoors we need to have a good store of sun care products.

Beyond Coastal Review + Giveaway

We have tried out several brands of sun care over the years and just recently encountered Beyond Coastal Sun Care. If you know me, then you know more often than not, I like to choose the natural route. Beyond Coastal  is right up my alley! They promote that no matter what you like to do outside, there is a healthy option for protecting your skin (and lips!). Did you know that 80% of your sunscreen’s formula is made up of inactive ingredients? Beyond Coastal is committed to using ingredients that are clean and safe. Some of these nourishing components include coconut oil, chamomile oil, aloe vera and shea butter. It’s significant to note that they offer gluten-free and vegan sunscreen options as well.

The founder of the company, Shawn Biega, started Beyond Coastal after first-hand experience with the effects of sun exposure and after witnessing a number of his friends being diagnosed with skin cancer. He was disappointed in the poor quality and chemically tainted sun care products on the market. Beyond Coastal takes pride in continuing research into better sun care.

“As individuals we are parents, athletes, consumers and concerned members of our global community. As a company and signatory of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics we are committed to offering your family the cleanest, healthiest sun care products possible at a reasonable price. Our formulas are crafted to offer true broad-spectrum protection and are packed with moisturizing botanical antioxidants that nourish, repair, and hydrate your skin.”

Consider this – we may take great care to keep our bodies healthy – we exercise and pay close attention to the food that goes into our bodies. Likewise, the products that go on our bodies should not be left out of this healthy living philosophy.

The next important question – does it work?

My whole family approves of every Beyond Coastal product we tried. The kids didn’t complain (while other sunscreens tend to sting sensitive faces) – and my oldest commented on the pleasant scent. We are lucky to have fairly olive-toned skin – but we do burn on occasion. We didn’t have any problems with burns, and we put this stuff to the test – both in and out of the water! Their AfterSun moisturizer feels very soothing and lightweight – and I’m definitely one to shy away from moisturizers because I don’t like feeling greasy – it wasn’t greasy at all! I particularly appreciate the convenience of the face-stick – it’s super easy to swipe on busy bodies and faces before they run off to play.

Beyond Coastal Review + Giveaway

The bottom line:  We love these sun care products! They worked well, didn’t sting, smelled good, and we really appreciate putting on a product with quality and natural ingredients.

Comments

  1. There are several things that are really important to me in sunscreen. The biggest thing is the one that you mentioned that it doesn’t bother sensitive skin. So many of the chemical based sunscreens cause me to break out in hives, which at the end of the day deters me from not wanting to wear sunscreen at all. So, I’m glad to hear that it gets the stamp of approval in that area!

  2. christopher sorel says:

I usually use some baby 50 stick all over my balding head as I burn like a lobster. Going for a hike outdoors is great but with a hat I get way too hot. Heck went out in 10 degrees last weekend and I had to take off my hat. A quality product that stays and you do not feel too greasy is the best.

  3. I love spending time outdoors hiking and climbing. With sensitive skin, I’m very conscious about what i put on my face.

  4. Liked the Beyond Coastal and Tales of a Mountain Mama Facebook pages.

  5. It’s important to me that our skin are products don’t have harsh chemicals in them! We love hiking in Utah and the sun is bright here!

  6. Finding a non-toxic sunscreen that is affordable and is easy to apply is my yearly battle! I am thankful for the EWG website. Without it, I would have a much trickier time finding my favorite solution for sun protection. My family spends most of our time outside no matter the season. My favorite outdoor activity is anything we do together.

  7. Marie H. says:

We’re always looking for products that don’t irritate sensitive skin and the more natural ingredients the better!

Our boys love exploring parks, but this summer we’ll be spending lots of time at the beach as well!

  8. I am very careful about buying suncare products that are natural – don’t want to slather chemicals all over myself if I can help it! We’re a very active family so are outside all summer swimming and hiking, and since we have fair skin, really need sun protection!

  9. Angela W. says:

I want my sunscreen to not sting when I apply it, have it work well (waterproof/sweatproof), and not be hard to rub in/apply, . We really take our sunscreen use seriously in our home. My husband lost his mother to skin cancer and my son and I are red heads so we burn easy, but we all love being outside. My favorite outdoor activity is running, which has become an early morning or late evening activity.

  10. Melissa C. says:

I look for products that perform without containing harmful ingredients. We love going for walks outside and, when feasible, going for bike rides!

  11. Melissa C. says:

I completed all of the likes :-)

  12. Liked all the FB pages and shared the post.

  13. Angela W. says:

I like both facebook pages and liked this post! Thanks for the chance!

  14. What do you value about your sun care products? That they work and are free of toxins!
What’s your favorite activity outdoors? Biking!

I love Beyond Coastal products with a high EWC rating and ease of use!

  15. DONE, DONE AND DONE! On Facebook, “like” the Beyond Coastal Facebook page, “like” the Tales of a Mountain Mama Facebook page, and up at the tippy top of this page “like” this post via the Facebook button. Let me know you did so in a second comment below.

  16. I always look for non-chemical sunscreens. My favorite outdoor activity is hiking.

  17. I liked both Facebook pages and this post also.

  18. I want a sunscreen that is safe, effective and easy to apply.

  19. I completed all the likes.

  20. Love Beyond Coastal and we have such fair skin, skin care is always important while hiking, running and skiing! The facestick rocks!

  21. Did the facebook schinnannigans. :)

  22. Hannah B says:

I value good, natural ingredients in my sunscreen, so I am excited to check out Beyond Costal. We spend so much time at the pool, in the garden and in the mountains that good sun screen is a must for our family.

  23. I’d love to try a sunscreen product that is not loaded with chemicals! One of my favorite outdoor activities is hiking. I also love spending time at the lake.

  24. Facebook likes complete :)

  25. I look for sunblock with minimal ingredients that are inclusive of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. We don’t want any of the chemical crud present in sunscreen.
Our favorite outdoor activity is hiking!

  26. It’s one thing to put chemicals on my body and quite another to put them on my daughter’s body. (Funny, but true mindset as a parent). But I’ve really struggled to find organic sunscreen that actually works. Most interested to give Beyond Coastal a chance.

  27. Liked, liked & liked

  28. The protection, less worry, I like the more natural stuff as well. We love hiking!

  29. Rhonda Tenderholt says:

I really like a sunscreen that doesn’t sting sensitive skin, or make it red. I also value a nice scent. Most irritate my allergies, even when they say no sent. I’m just now starting to raise chickens and start a garden so I”ll be out more. I also like to go camping w/my family. Thank you for the giveaway.

  30. Rhonda Tenderholt says:

Already fans of your page and theirs. Liked at the tippy top!

  31. Diane Richards says:

Trying to find a sunscreen/sunblock that I don’t have an allergic reaction to when exposed to the sun has been a life long challenge for me. Being allergic (had some pretty wicked allergic reactions to both and discovered it the hard way and had to get heavy duty prescriptions to clear all the itchy red bumps) to both zinc oxide and PABA, along with my love for hiking (do a beautiful hike or other all day outdoor outing, just about every weekend), I am still searching for something that will provide me more protection than just using a Vitamin C face creme, hat, long sleeves and long pants on a 100 degree summer day in Northern California.

Would love to give Beyond Coastal a try. We have everyone liked on Facebook, too!

  32. I like hiking and biking in the summer. Oh, and kayaking. A lot of sunscreens give me a rash, and experimenting to find the ones that don’t gets expensive.

  33. I really want a sunscreen that doesn’t bother my son’s eyes if it gets too close. His face gets all splotchy and his eyes tear up when we put sunscreen on, even “no sting” baby stuff. Would love to try this to see if it works! We should be spending a lot of time in the back yard, at the lake, and camping this summer.

  34. Also, liked all the pages :)

  35. Natural, non-toxic ingredients is what I value most in any skin care products, both for me and the kids:o) I use sunscreens sparingly, instead trying to stay in the shade when possible or at least during the peak sunburn hours in the middle of the day. Having said that, we love playing by the pool on really hot days and enjoy hiking when the temps are lower.

  36. And liked in all three places:o)

  37. The first thing that I look for in a sunscreen is that it works! I have a redhead with very fair skin and I don’t want to compromise her skin. Second, I love natural ingredients without extra, unnecessary chemicals. Our favorite outdoor sports are skiing, biking, and hiking, so we need something that works!

  38. Not smelly or greasy, and preferably natural.

Anything to do with water outside.

  39. Katy Savolskis says:

The number 1 thing I look for in sunscreen is for it to be as natural as possible. With 2 little ones, I don’t want to be slathering their sensitive skin with chemicals.

Our favorite activity is hiking/camping/fishing in the Olympic Mountains here in Washington State.

  40. Katy Savolskis says:

    Liked x 3!

    :)

  41. I like a sun care product that doesn’t wipe off very easily.

  42. I am very careful about chemicals in sunscreen as my daughters and I all have very sensitive skin (especially in the sun). Favorite outdoor activities in summer–sailing, biking, swimming and running. Winter-skiing and snowshoeing.
Thanks! I already like you page on FB :)

  43. I like a sunscreen to be as natural as possible and to protect our skin as it should.
My most favorite activity outside is a very hard choice because being outside is so rejuvenating and joy filled, but if I had to choose just one I would say hiking. With hiking you can get so lost in the beautiful and the peace around you. Amazing creation!

  44. I liked all 3, the Beyond Coastal Facebook page, the Tales of a Mountain Mama Facebook page, and this post.
Thanks for having this giveaway too!

  45. Jessica bressler says:

I value a sunscreen that does not irritate my sensitive kids’ skin. Our favorite outdoor activity is biking. Jessica

  46. We value a skin product that is good for our bodies inside and out! We love spending time at the playground and the beach where we need to protect ourselves from the sun’s powerful rays.

  47. I liked all 3! :)

  48. When the sun comes out in Alaska it stays out and sunscreen is crucial. Often times we hike across leftover snow or glaciers where the sun can cause problems from multiple directions. I’m hoping to try out some new safe products on my little babe this year!

  49. Also liked all 3

  50. Camille says:

Love this giveaway! I like to float and swim in rivers, but I’m conscious of needing to protect my skin (and my red-headed husband’s!) without questionable chemicals. I try to find mineral-based sunscreens, but sometimes worry about their staying power.

  51. I’m hoping this is open to Canadians!

Natural and/or hypoallergenic are key as my oldest is quite sensitive to chemicals (hives, rashes, etc). We use a lot of sunscreen as we spend a lot of time on and near the water (so waterproof is also a bonus). If I did a poll I think our family collective answer would be swimming in lakes – we do it a LOT.

  1. […] Seriously. Sometimes all you need is a little water to make the adventure come alive! Even as a kid growing up in Western Washington (where “hot” doesn’t happen very often), I was excited when we’d plan for a water balloon fight or set up a slip n’ slide made of garbage bags and tarps. In places where hot weather can limit outdoor activities, water saves the day. We survive many Florida summer days outside at the pool. Don’t forget the sunscreen! […]
