Gear Review: WOOM 4 Bike Review
If you aren’t familiar with WOOM Bikes, take a look at our post about the company and what makes the bikes stand out as a fantastic and highly-recommended choice for kids.
The WOOM4 bike is a 20″ bike geared towards kids aged 7-9 years (though we think most 5 year olds are able to ride it just fine). Like all WOOM bikes, the WOOM4 is lightweight, has exceptional components and frees kids to ride without the worries of a heavy or cumbersome bike.
According to our scale, it comes in at a little over 19 pounds, which is about 2.5 pounds more than the Supra WOOM4 (check out our review of that one here, including a comparison between the two bikes.) For MOST kids, those extra 2.5 or so pounds doesn’t make much of a difference, but if you are a serious rider or racer, the Supra is outstanding. For everyone else, the WOOM4 is a bike that stands out above almost any other bike for kids on the market.
The WOOM 4 has 8 gears to allow riders to achieve not only more challenging hills, but also be more effective with their downhill pedaling. Because of the fact that the bike is so light, J rides usually in at least the 2nd or 3rd gear. The lowest gear is truly able to be used just when he needs it – on the steeper hills or more difficult trails. The WOOM 4 also comes with off-road tires that perform well on almost all surfaces.
What makes the WOOM 4 stand out as a great bike for kids?
– Frame is made of the superlight AA-6061 alloy
– Low center of gravity
– Easy stand-over (which is particularly great for new riders)
– Comfortable seat which is completely adjustable to find the perfect angle for that child’s comfort
– Quick-relase seat post clamp
– 8 speeds to make hill-climbing easier
– Super light rims on the wheels
– Kenda small block tires provide great traction
– Quick-release front and back tires (which make traveling with it and changing tires SOOOO much easier!)

Why no front shock? Why hand brakes only?

Our thoughts on the WOOM 4:
In our family, we put a high value on gear that allows our kids (and us) to focus on the fun we are having instead of the things that are holding us back. The WOOM 4 allows J (age 6 – though he rode this starting at age 5 1/2) to expand his riding with more trails, steeper hills, less resistance and a general greater enjoyment of biking. THIS is the bike I recommend to our family and friends that are willing and able to invest in an exceptional bike for their kids.
Not sure your investment is worth it? WOOM has a great 90 day money back guarantee. They stand behind their bikes and that says a LOT about the company.
The Bottom Line
As with all WOOM bikes, the WOOM 4 is made specifically for kids (opposed to a scaled-down version of an adult bike) and the details and components are proof of that. It's more spendy that many other kid bikes out there, BUT you get what you pay for. The extra investment is worth it for families that are serious about kids and biking.
WOOM generously provided us demo bikes in order to facilitate this review. However, as always, the opinions expressed here are completely and honestly our own.
