    Our Mission:

Tales of a Mountain Mama aims to help inspire families to get outdoors and adventure, even with young children. We share our stories from out on the trails, in the woods, and in the mountains, provide tips and tricks, and welcome feedback from our readers!  Most importantly, we are just a normal family getting out there and showing that it is possible (because we all know how overwhelming being a parent in itself can be!).

We also happen to be big believers in the fact that sometimes an investment in great gear is a worthwhile step in helping getting the entire family out. Watch for a diverse make-up of honest gear reviews and giveaways. Finally, we love to feature occasional guest bloggers and experts to round out our own knowledge and experience.

    Who You’ll Find Here:

headshotAmelia writes from Yellowstone National Park where she lives with her husband, four young children (J, P, L and M) and their lab, Katmai. Amelia started the blog in 2011 after the birth of her second child.  She realized that for her own sanity, she needed to be able to continue to get out and adventure, even as their family expanded.  She made a new commitment to get out every day with her kids (and husband, of course) and began to write about it.  Hence the birth of Tales of a Mountain Mama.  She is also a long-time “gear head” and strongly believes that good gear is essential to happy adventures (because there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing!).

      1. I will enjoy reading your blog. I worked in yellowstone for 5 summers, met my husband there. We hiked with our two kids, starting at a few months old. I now have my first grandchild!!

        Hi,

I really liked your review of the pea pod travel beds. My husband and I want to take our 1.5month old camping. The pea pods are for 1 yr minimum. Any suggestions on what our little guy can sleep in?

        Thank you,
        Sabrina

        • Hi Sabrina – for a newborn (6ish weeks old, right??) I always put them in a snowsuit or bunting (instead of a sleeping bag) and then let them sleep on top of an adult sleeping bag (for padding) or a dog bed works really well too. They’re not moving much then – they just have to stay warm! Does that help?

      3. So psyched I found your blog! I am currently 18 weeks along with our first! And I’m writing to you from the passenger seat of our car as we drive from Big Horn Wyoming to Pikes Peak Colorado on our yearly road trip camping/hiking trip! People keep saying that this will be our last trip like this for a while, and I was starting to believe them! I thought maybe I was being unrealistic to think that this time next year we won’t be able to go on our adventures! But your blog gives me hope! Keep it up!! I’ve subscribed and I look forward to reading!

      4. Hi Mountain Mama! I just found your blog, and I’m looking forward to reading some more of your posts! I had a blog a while back where I blogged about the adventures that my husband and I went on, but when I had our son, almost 2 years ago (where did that time go?!), I decided to change gears and moved my blog to RaisingARoamer.com. I haven’t gotten back into writing regularly (I’m working on it!), but I’d love for you to check it out. Enjoy your day!
