Our List of Cool Family Camping Gadgets + Giveaway

In case you missed our post on Monday, the Great American Backyard Campout is happening THIS Saturday!  Since we love little gadgets and things to make camping a little more fun and easy, we thought we would share a list of some of our favorites:

1.  Telescoping Campfire Fork from Camping Kiddos $12.99:  THE best roasting stick I have ever seen.  It packs up at just 12″ long and then telescopes out to 42″ for safe roasting for everyone.  Even better?  There is a rotating knob so you can spin your ‘mallow or ‘dog with simple movements.  It’s pretty slick.  And at just $12.99 for two, it’s a good deal.  Psstt…we  love it so much, we are giving one set away (read to the end of the post!)

2.  UCO Clarus LED Lantern/Flashlight $19.99:  A great light for family camping because it is kid and adult-friendly.  The light can be used both as a lantern (or brighter night light) and as a flashlight for night time adventures (even if it just to the potty!)  It’s small enough to handle, emits great light, has two brightness settings and is super light (so even tiny kids can handle it.)  Plus, it has held up to the “fun” game of “ON-OFF-ON-OFF, etc.” that my kids like to play.  A great light!

3.  Go With Me Chairs by Kelsyus $99.95 (or see where sales are here):  We talk about it a lot.  It’s that good.  See our full review in the link title.

4.  LEGO Head Lamp ~$15 They aren’t the most durable thing in the world and they cease to work when it is really cold out, but they are cheap and cute and little boys think they are the coolest thing ever.  Anything to make camping fun!

5. Kidco Go-Pod Portable Activity Seat on sale for ~$50 at Amazon:  Another great piece of camping gear for babies.  It helps keep them contained and safe (especially around the campfire) and is a great place for eating and feeling engaged.  Plus, it folds down like a camp chair so takes up minimal room.  We actually own this instead of an exersaucer for our babies (takes up WAY less room at home too!)

  1. Must have coffee! Always bring my coffee brewer, of course I always have electric where I camp. That’s probably tops, but I also like my artificial grass for in front of tent.

  2. Good question, Amelia! For me it’s a pillow. We don’t do much backpacking with the kids these days, so I always find room for a pillow in the packed car. I sleep so much better!

  3. We also bring our french press. Beginning the day with a good cup of coffee is our routine camping or not. Another extra my husband and I look forward to is a glass of wine after the kids are in bed. Certainly not a “must-have” but another enjoyable camping routine.

  4. I always have to pack a little treat like gummy worms or something fun for the kids. Having that extra reward after a long hike works wonders!

  5. I think it’d have to be my headlamp. Even on day hikes I always have the urge to bring it “just in case.”

  6. Extra shoes for everyone (even when the husband insists he’ll have no need for a back-up pair, sneak an extra pair of Crocs or whatever in the bags… he’ll appreciate it later). Extra towels are a very close second on my list. You can almost never have enough with you!

  7. My must-have is my iPhone. Camera, recorder, notebook, book, video player for kids that won’t sleep or get up too early, flashlight, alarm clock, …

  8. Who doesn’t need a telescoping roasting fork? Wish I had one right now!!! Roasted marshmallows are calling my name!!!!
