I am one of those gals that almost always has something on my head to keep my hair (or the sun) out of my eyes. I’ve realized I do it year-round. This summer I reached out to Pistil Designs to see about getting a sampling of their hats to share with you. I had noticed them all over the place in gear shops (which is always a good sign), and wanted to see what they were all about.
Pistil offers not only hats, but also scarves and headbands too. They also have a great line-up coming for fall/winter 2014 (I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek.) They have a whole range of hat styles to fit a variety of preferences and needs.
My only general gripe? I’ve noticed that many of their styles tend to run just a bit small. A little more elastic would give them a greater range for different heads. Either that or I have a big head?!?! It’s not a total deal-breaker, but something I hope they’ll improve.
**Apparently this post will also be good evidence that when I am outside right now, I am wearing a least one kid…see photos!**
Shiso Headband $18
Very lightweight, great colors and wide enough to keep my hair (and bangs) out of my face. My only concern is that I feel like I have an average sized head and it was just a tad tight to wear for long periods of time. It did stretch just a tiny bit with wear, but if I just had 1/2 cm more room in the elastic, I would be happier!
Bocca Sun Hat $36
Very lightweight, great sun coverage and I love that it has a chin strap for keeping it on in the wind. The other hats are cuter in my opinion, but for just keeping sun off my face, this one rocks. It also folds up really easily to keep in my pack.
Ellery Cap $34
I love this one – it’s my go-to throw it on and go. It’s lined so isn’t for super hot weather, but the brim keeps sun off my face well. However again – just a teeny bit tight on the biggest setting (and really – I don’t think I have big head?!?!)
Anya Cap $30
The Anya is very lightweight, packable and fits better than any of the other caps for me. Like the Bocca, I can easily throw it into a pack or purse for a quick hat when I need one. It doesn’t have the widest brim or is the most water-repellent, but it is great for camping when you need something to throw on quick and does dry fairly quickly. It’s not secure enough for running, but great for hiking, etc.
