I make my kids (and do so myself) wear their sun hats every time they are outside. Being that we are at a higher elevation and the sun is intense – hats really aren’t optional. They go along with our philosophy that isn’t best for them to wear them every time from the very beginning so they’re just used to wearing them.
We’ve seen a lot of sun hats over the years. We all have a few of them each, we see our friends wearing them and we’re always checking them out in retail shops. I can safely that that across the board, Sunday Afternoons has the best styles and functionality out there (for kids especially, but their adult line is awesome too!).
In the photo above, P and L are wearing the Kids’ Play Hat. It’s our favorite because it has such great coverage both in the front and the back, has a break-away (for safety) under-chin strap and breathes well. We’ve loved them for sun AND rain. Plus they’re lightweight and pack really well.
The kids are releasing fish below on Kids Fishing Day (which is SUCH a great event around here!) J (in the blue and yellow hat) is wearing the Fun Bucket Hat. It has great coverage, is soft and comfortable and floats. I like the neck coverage in the Kids’ Play hat better, but this is our second favorite.
As mentioned above, Sunday Afternoons also makes hats for adults. There is a wide range on their site…but we love them best for on-the-water play!
You can purchase the hats at many outdoor retailers, but REI has some on sale right now. And thanks for clicking through that affiliate link – it doesn’t cost you a dime and helps us out just a little bit!
Two of you will win your choice of pattern in a Kids’ Play Hat (based upon availability, of course).
