This weekend we followed Mtn Papa to the mountains while he hunted. We love going along when we can because it gives us more time camping, more time as a family and the fall is just so gorgeous. While I usually pair hunting season with “snow”, we managed some cool, but decent weather.
Perfect for hiking,
hot soup on the tail gate,
and the comfort of our old (but, oh so cozy) camper.
The weekend was short and he didn’t sight any elk, but we did get lots of fishing in.
And I loved having no choice but to be disconnected from the world.
I relished just a little more the toasts we made,
and the smiles and laughter (amidst the normal meltdowns and fussiness, of course)…
Because it’s the simple moments that mean the most.
Even if I will always and forever hate the unpacking that comes at the end of it!
P.S. We used my all-time very favorite cold weather camping/hiking/playing gear this weekend from Stanley Brand. I’ve been pining over their Adventure Vacuum Crock and 64 oz. Growler forever now, and they are absolutely worth every penny. It was so incredible to have hot soup available for hungry tummies all day, and we kept the hot chocolate flowing as necessary. Yes, I know normal people would put beer in their growler, but it kept the hot drinks hot AND was super easy to pour. Quite honestly, I’ll be getting rid of every other thermos we own – it’s that good. And then when we want beer, I know it will keep it cold and carbonated and ready for anything.
Plus, I think every family needs tin cups for camping. They seem to make everything a bit more authentic… You can find them all here.
