Best for Toddlers
Whether your tiny human is on a balance bike or riding along in a seat or trailer, they are going to need some accessories. Check out our favorite picks for our littlest riders:
This is a great first helmet for your little. Easy to adjust with MIPS protection, this helmet is great on a bike or in the Burley thanks to its flat back. XS fits 17.75-19.25 inches around and S fits 19.25-21 inches around.
Minishades are a favorite TMM Team pick when it comes to eye protection for the littles. With a price that won’t break the bank, polarized lenses and 100% UV protection, these are a winner with both parents and kids. Bonus: Manufacturer’s warranty covers scratched lenses, breakage and even loss! Minishades come in toddler and kid sizes.
Need to dress up an older bike or just add some personality, grab a pair of ribbon streamers. They easily attach to the end of the handle bars on a bike or scooter.
Best for Little Kids
If your little one is mastering their balance bike or starting on their first pedal bike, this gear will help them get where they are going!
The Tremor is a great helmet once you outgrow the Scamp. There are lots of vents for breathability, an easy adjust system, and a removable visor. It fits 50-57 cm head circumference and also includes an integrated Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS®), which can redirect energy and provide more protection during certain impacts, the latest technology in head protection.
Nutcase Little Nutty MIPS Helmet
If your kiddo is one who likes to regularly ride bikes and scooters or skateboards, then check out this “skater style” helmet. This helmet comes with MIPS protection and easy to use No-pinch Fidlock magnetic closure. Toddler size fits 48-52cm heads and youth size fits 52-56cm heads.
Osprey Moki 1.5 Hydration Pack
This small pack is great for little riders! They can have their water easily accessible, room to shed a layer and store a snack. The zippered reservoir sleeve comes with the Hydraulics LT 1.5-liter reservoir included. Additionally, the adjustable sternum strap helps perfect the fit and the mesh back panel helps keep the little shredders cool. It fits torsos with a length of 11-17 inches.
Although these are not biking specific pants, the Mountainmakers are a good choice for little kids biking. The cuffs have elastic in the back so they are not too loose at the bottom and the elastic waist with a drawstring ensure a good fit. Loose enough to fit a baselayer under, but not too loose where they will get caught. They also have reinforced knees, are quick to dry, and move easily for the active kiddos. Mountainmaker Boys & Mountainmaker Girls start as size XS (4-5).
This quick drying jersey will keep your little cool and looking stylish on the trail. The Livia has a quarter zip in the front and two pockets in the back. This jersey comes in youth sizes S, M, L.
These fingerless gloves are built for little hands. They have an adjustable wrist closure to get a good fit and have padding throughout the palm to keep your rider comfy. The gloves also have an absorbent fleece pad on the thumb to wipe away the inevitable runny nose and they are best for ages 4-10.
These lightweight pads are great for little riders. Maximum protection in a little package. The compression sleeves have silicone grips to keep the pads in place. Bonus: They are machine washable! They come in 2 sizes: Youth S/M and Youth L/XL. Check the size chart on G-Form to make sure you get the correct size. You can also check out G-Form elbow pads here.
Salsa Side Entry Water Bottle Cage
Youth bikes don’t always have enough room for a top loading water bottle cage, this side entry from Salsa solves the problem. It is perfect for small spaces! Not only does the 3/4 wrap keep your bottle secure, but it also can be flipped so you can switch it for right or left entry.
Biking shoes for little kids are hard to find/non-existent. If your little one is on pedals, you want something with a firm sole and grippy tred, therefore, I have found hiking shoes to be the best! The Terradoras have a bungee closure for a secure fit and good traction to help prevent pedal slips.
