Sun Protection Clothing

These pieces are UPF50 and designed to keep you protected from harmful UV rays while you are outside doing what you love. The Sunbuster collection is long standing at T9 and has been a team favorite for years.

Sunbuster 1/4 Zip Cap Sleeve Hoodie

Keep the sun off your neck, back, and shoulders with the cap sleeve hoodie. Great for pulling over swimwear when you’ve had enough sun for the day but its still warm out. The material is lightweight and airy, perfect for warm days.

  • UPF 50
  • Back zipper pocket
  • Hood with drawcord

Sizes available: XS(2), S(4-6), M(8-10), L(12-14), XL(16)

I am looking forward to wearing this over my swimsuit this summer at beach or pool days! The material is lightweight and airy and should keep me cool on warm sunny days. I love the little back zipper pocket, perfect for a key, card, or chapstick.

A woman in a floral top leans on a counter outside.

First off, I love the pattern. It’s colorful and bright — the combo of lilac, blues, and pop of almost-neon yellow are bold, but not over the top.

The fabric is lightweight, breathable, and didn’t absorb heat even wearing it in warm Phoenix temps. The front zipper adds a little style moment, and the zipper pulls are small but easy to grip. There’s a pocket in the back, which I appreciated more than I expected to. The hood is a nice touch for sun protection.

Fit-wise, it runs a little loose on me but not oversized — more of a relaxed, drapey situation. I’m 5’10” in a medium. It stayed put during movement, which matters because I’m thinking about this for hiking, creek days, and biking around. Nothing riding up, nothing pulling.

One small thing: the hoodie ties kept getting caught in my armpits. A little annoying, but easily fixed by zipping up a little higher. Minor complaint for an otherwise great piece.

Sunbuster 1/4 Zip Long Sleeve Hoodie

When you need a little more coverage than the sleeveless version, this long sleeve gives you plenty of protection. Long sleeves with thumbholes and a good coverage hood.

  • UPF 50
  • Back zipper pocket
  • Hood with drawcord and thumbholes on the sleeves

Sizes available: XS(2), S(4-6), M(8-10), L(12-14), XL(16)

A woman stands in front of a rock by a lake with a white sun hoodie on.

I really like that the fabric on the 1/4 zip long sleeve hoodie is thicker and doesn’t feel see-through like other sun shirts even while wearing a black sports bra, though that does make it a bit less breathable on high-activity days. The central back pocket is perfect for holding a license without it pulling to one side, and the reinforced thumb holes fit great—I just wish the hood had a ponytail hole!

Sizes available: XS(2), S(4-6), M(8-10), L(12-14), XL(16)

A person with a blue hoodie on faces away.

The Sunbuster Hoodie sun shirt is so soft and comfy! The lower arm pits threw me off a little (the shirt is quite loose by design, which turns out to be great), but after some time in the sun in the afternoon, I was thrilled that they weren’t up in my pits getting all gross and sweaty. The looser fit means that the shirt is not so hot. I love the back pocket on the shirt, especially that it zips up. The hood is roomy and would easily fit over a hat. I wore the shirt just over a sports bra, but it would work well over another shirt (or tank) or swimsuit as well. The sleeves on the shirt are nice and long. Normally with my long arms, I can’t use thumb holes, but these are long enough that they work for me.

This top and the Incrediboardie shorts together look great. I have worn them just as casual clothes around town. I got compliments from non-outdoorsy mamas and one of the cycling team coaches on the stylish-ness of the clothes.

Considerations: I ended up wearing the shirt to mountain bike practice (not the use case, but I forgot sunscreen and had the shirt), and realized quickly that if I put keys in the back pocket, I was likely to tear a hole in it quickly. I worry that the soft fabric will snag.

Upland Sun Shirt Collection

The Upland sun shirt is a Lightweight breathable shirt that is ready for your next adventure or for everyday wear. Cute front chest pocket and drawstring waist. Choose from a sleeveless, short sleeve, or long sleeve top.

  • UPF 50
  • Lightweight
  • Drawcord around the waist
  • Long sleeve has thumb holes

Sizes available: XS(2), S(4-6), M(8-10), L(12-14), XL(16).

A woman walks through purple flowers with snow capped mountains in the background with a yellow sun shirt on.

What I love aboud the Upland Short Sleeve Sunshirt: the material is soft and comfortable. It is the perfect weight for warm days and moves easily and comfortably. The length of the sleeves is stylish and offers a bit of extra protection. The chest pocket and drawstrings at the waist also add style to this active-wear shirt. The shirt fits true to size. I am an active mother managing heat sensitivity that comes with living with Multiple Sclerosis. Clothing that keeps the sun off of my skin and is made of lightweight material to keep me cool is truly a support that allows me to adventure with my family.

Considerations: The shirt is clearly well-made, but with the softness of the material I was checking it for snags as I played outside with the kids. Lots of leaning, climbing, lifting, and exploring off-trail might just put this item’s durability to the test. And, while the drawstrings in the front earn the shirt style points, they are placed perfectly to become a consideration when using the bathroom.

Overall, I love the feel and style of the Upland Short Sleeve Sun Shirt and, even more, love that I can stay cool and protected as summer nears.

I quickly fell in love with the Upland Long Sleeve Sun Shirt on my trip to Panama….so much so that I went out and bought a short sleeve version too. It feels wonderful even in humidity, dries quickly and hangs well. There’s just enough stretch to make it comfy while also keeping its shape. I could do without the tie in the front but it’s a fun detail that only gets in the way if I’m layering…which I don’t do much with sun shirts.

  • UPF 50+
  • Quick Dry
  • Easy Packing

Petite and Regular sizes available: XS(2), S(4-6), M(8-10), L(12-14), XL(16).

A woman with a hat, teal tank top and burgundy pants walks in the grass.

The Slaycation pants are very lightweight and comfy. These will be getting packed for many adventures this summer, from travel days to dinner out and everything in between. I love they they come in petite sizing for my shorter legs. I am 5’2″ and wearing a small petite.

Speed Racer Tunic Dress and Midi Dress

These dresses are ready for anything. Beach coverup to shopping to dinner out. The quick dry material has been a fan favorite for years and it feels nice and light.

  • UPF 50+
  • Lightweight
  • Two zippered pockets

Sizes available: XS(2), S(4-6), M(8-10), L(12-14), XL(16)

I love wide shoulder straps on the Speed Racer Midi and the fabric is so light and airy! I like the front buttons for extra airflow and being a short but stout gal, I like the side ties on the bottom that shorten the dress a bit. And POCKETS with zippers! Yes! I’m excited to wear it on repeat to the lake/river this summer!

One Piece Swimwear

Impossible One Piece – Laguna

The Impossible One Piece swim suit combines support and security with a strappy look. Choose for color with options from solid, color block, and patterns.

  • Wireless, best for A-DD Cups
  • Removable perforated cups
  • Adjustable straps with a tie in the back
  • Medium rear coverage

Sizes available in regular and D/DD cup: XS, S, M, L, XL

I love the strappy yet secure fit of the Impossible One Piece. I personally would prefer a little more rear coverage, but it has a great fit and still has enough coverage. I chose the Rich Fig Print and the pattern design definitely helps smooth those mom bumps. Cute enough for adult vacations but can still hold up to playing with the kids in the pool without uncovering!

Whitecap One Piece Swimsuit

If you are looking for a suit with a little extra coverage where the sun hits most, then check out the Whitecap one piece. Extra coverage on the shoulders and full coverage on the back.

  • Best for A-C cups with a shelf bra
  • Removable perforated cups
  • Moderate rear coverage
  • Secure zippered pocket

Sizes available: XS, S, M, L, XL.

What I love about the Whitecap One Piece: the material is high quality and the fit of the suit is great! It gives me support on the top and I could be very active in it. As a redhead with fair skin and an aunt that had treatment for melanoma, I highly value swimsuits with sun protection. My absolute favorite part is the full-coverage shoulders on the back so I will never have to worry about reaching for sunscreen on my back.

Some considerations: this suit has a higher thigh/more narrow crotch than some of my other swimsuits. It’s possible that sizing up may help with this though – I’m typically right between a S and M but usually prefer my swimsuits to be more on the small size than too big!

Overall I love the swimsuit and the cut and pattern are very flattering!

Two Piece Swimwear

Whitecap Midkini – Whitney

This top pulls double duty and is ready for swim days and strolls into town. Wide shoulder straps protect the shoulders from sun and the full back panel protects the back with its UPF 50+ rating. Choose from solid colors or fun prints!

  • Wireless, best for A-C cups
  • Deep v-neckline
  • Removable perforated cups

The fit on the Whitecap Midkini top is sleek and streamlined. I’m a 34C/36B and sized into a medium, which is snug enough to feel secure without cutting in. The V-neck is flattering, and I was skeptical about the full back but it won me over — it actually makes the whole thing feel more supportive and protective. I’d confidently wear this for paddle boarding, pack rafting, creek days, and hiking. It’s more than just a lounge-around-the-pool swimsuit top. It can also pull double duty as a regular top, which I appreciate. The forest green is a really nice, saturated color — I’m a big fan.

Impossible Midkini Top

This strappy midkini is a little shorter than a tankini, but more coverage than a bikini. Top should stay put with whatever you do thanks to the adjustable straps and Y back design.

  • Wireless, best for A-B cups
  • Removable perforated cups
  • Adjustable straps and back

Sizes available: XS, S, M, L, XL

A woman stands on a beach with a navy swim suit on.

The Impossible Midkini top feels true to size while the fabric is thick and supportive. The tie back on the Midkini make it far more customizable as well. The liners in the cups in the top are well shaped and placed.

The Midkini fit more like a tankini on my petite body, as it went as low as the shorts and the thick strap in the middle of the shoulder blades isn’t my favorite look. For a taller person, it is probably just fine though. I would love a petite swim top but that is rare and a two piece is a great way to manage length.

Overall, I am impressed with the material and design and I think it will get a lot of use!

Wahine Swim Shorts

These are a run short like swim bottom. Lightweight material that provides full coverage without the need for additional swim bottoms underneath.

  • Mid rise with maximum coverage
  • Built-in brief with sand resistant liner
  • One zippered pocket and one waist stash pocket

Sizes available: XS(2), S(4-6), M(8-10), L(12-14), XL(16).

A woman in a navy swimsuit plays with some sand at the beach.

The Wahine Swim Shorts are great, rather than wear a swim bottom and board shorts, it is all in one. The wide waist band is comfortable to wear and more flattering. Plus a zipper pocket will keep a room key, credit card or other small item secure.  These bottoms feel true to size for me.

Incrediboardie Board Shorts

Available in 6″ and 4″ and lots of colors and patterns, these board shorts are at home at the beach or cruising around town. Quick to dry and full coverage, but no liner so other bottoms are needed underneath.

  • Relaxed fit with a mid rise
  • Fixed waist with snap-drawcord closure
  • Two drop-in pockets, one secure zippered pocket

Sizes available: 2-14

A woman with a bright blue sun shirt swings on a swing set.

The Incrediboardie shorts are really comfy. The fabric is stretchy, but seams are flat and well made. I love the pattern on the shorts. It’s fun, and has lots of colors, so it will match many shirts I have. The pockets are deep, and a zipper pocket means a credit card could be kept safe. I haven’t tried yet, but I’m pretty confident I could rock climb in the shorts and not have them riding up under my harness. I’m really, really excited to wear these as we get into the warmer season.

The shorts do run big. It says to size down if you are between sizes, and I was solidly a 10 (maybe even slightly bigger on their size chart), but the shorts are a little loose on me. I have to really cinch down the waist, but it’s not really adjustable. I love that they are comfy, but I am worried they wouldn’t stay on particularly well in the water if I were to jump off a paddleboard, for example. I also would be hesitant to wear the shorts with a backpack waist strap since I think it would push them down. They stayed up comfortably when I put a cell phone in one pocket, so they aren’t egregiously large, just that there isn’t much give in the waist and they also don’t have a drawstring or belt loops (or any elastic at all, basically). So take the size down advice on the shorts to heart. Most people will probably go down a fully size.
