Mishmi Takin for Wet Weather Adventuring (Hot OR Cold!)

“Mishmi Takin is more than just a brand, it is about finding passion for life in completely unexpected places.”

The goal of Mishmi Takin is to make gear that keeps you dry and comfortable in wet climates, both hot AND cold. Inspired by the Mishmi Hills in the Eastern Himalayas, owner Kapil realized that there was a lack of quality gear out there that didn’t leave you feeling wet and sticky in humid climates. The key is breathability that happens BEFORE you get hot and sweaty. But, if you’re NOT in a hot climate, keep reading. This gear is extremely versatile and works in a variety of climates.

Over the past couple of months, I have been testing out the following products. This post will be updated after I have used them in the heat of the summer, but here are my initial thoughts.

  • Kameng Hiking Boots (Mens and Womens)
    • I have difficult feet (wide and a tendency towards plantar fasciitis) so finding great hiking boots or shoes in general is incredibly hard for me. However, I decided to give the Kamengs a try and they have become my favorites. They are incredibly supportive both in the ankle and arch, have great traction (even on icy, snowy trails), and breathe well. The photo below makes them look brand new…..I promise I have put tons and tons of miles on them. They’re just that durable. Mishmi Takin for Wet Weather Adventuring (Hot OR Cold!)
  • Cayambe Softshell Jacket with Hood
    • A softshell is the perfect do-all jacket in most conditions. The Cayambe in particular keeps me absolutely dry and warm in wet conditions, but breathes better than any softshell I have worn. It is slightly heavy because of the fleece lining (which I love), but I don’t hesitate to hike in it. Pit zips, lots of pockets and a fantastic hood. Note: It runs a full size small so size up!Mishmi Takin for Wet Weather Adventuring (Hot OR Cold!)
  • Virunga Hardshell Jacket with Hood
    • This is a perfect all-season jacket. It’s super lightweight, but does an impressive job of venting and keeping me dry both on the outside and and the inside. It’s enough of a shell for downhill or XC ski pursuits and keeps me dry even when I am sweating like crazy. Pit zips, great hood for full coverage in a downpour and plenty of zipped pockets. Despite being lightweight, I was impressed with the durability – this is a shell that will last for years and years. Only downside? As a hardshell, it’s “crinkly” and louder than I prefer. Mishmi Takin for Wet Weather Adventuring (Hot OR Cold!)

Amelia lives with her husband and five young children outside of Jackson, WY in Grand Teton National Park. As a mom, she quickly learned that the secret to sanity was to spend more time outside where tantrums don't see quite so bad. Amelia started TMM in 2012 to help encourage all families (including her own) to get outside, no matter the weather. Due to the necessity of having to keep so many kids warm and happy, she has become an expert in kids' gear and loves being able to share it with others.
