Best Hiking Pants for Women
Title Nine Clamber Pants – Team Favorite!
No surprise that the Title Nine Clamber pants found their way on this list as the Clamber line-up is a long standing TMM team favorite. The wide, stretchy waistband make for a comfy fit all day on lots of body types. The fabric is durable and stretchy.
Another perk is that the Clamber comes in regular, petite, and long and they have a drawstring at the ankle so you can always cinch them up if needed. There is also a Title Nine Clamber Capri if you are looking for a shorter pant.
Sizes Available: Regular 2-14, Petite 2-12, Long 2-14
I love that the Clamber Pants are a little roomier in the hip/thigh than my other hiking pants. The deep front and side leg pockets are really helpful for backpacking since back pockets are not very accessible with a pack on. It would be nice if one of the side leg pockets had a zipper instead of Velcro. I’ve worn them for literally 90+ days straight and they still look fresh when I wash them!

I have been wearing these pants exclusively on all our hikes. I like the deep thigh pockets on both sides that have a Velcro closure and use them to stash my passport and phone. However, I don’t love where the waist hits when I have to wear a pack with a waist belt. It sits at the same spot and pinches/rubs me. It’s a great excuse to make my husband the pack mule for our adventures though, but I wouldn’t choose to backpack with these at home because of that.

Title Nine Switchback Ultralight Hiking Joggers
These lightweight joggers are comfy and come with lots of pockets. Available in regular and petite sizing and a variety of colors. Not only are these pants great for hiking, they are great travel pants with some hidden zipper pockets and have been great for biking too with the jogger ankle cuff. These pants will definitely be heading to Switzerland with me this summer for travel and hiking.
Only downside, my phone is heavy enough to pull the pants down a little. There is a drawstring to use, but just beware that you can’t load the pockets and keep them higher. Perhaps a smaller size would help with this as well.
I agree with the disclaimer on the site to size down if you are between sizes. I typically wear a size small (4-6), and have a small in these. I probably should have went with a petite small for a little better fit as I am only 5’2″.
Sizes Available: XS-XL and Petite XS-XL

Eddie Bauer First Ascent Guide Pro Pants
The Eddie Bauer First Ascent Guide Pro pants are another team favorite for the wide variety of sizing and colors available. These pants have a lightweight feel and two-way stretch that is flexible for hiking. The water repellent finish also easily sheds light rain and keeps when from getting too heavy with river wading.
Currently available in more than 6 colors and multiple sizes. For me, sizing seems to be true to size, maybe slightly on the large size so sizing up may not be necessary.
I have picked up multiple pairs of these pants and EB seems to pretty regularly run 50% off bringing them in around $43 on sale.
Sizes Available: Regular 0-18, Petite 0-14, Tall 6-18, and Plus Size 18W-24W

Prana Halle Pants
The Prana Halle pant is another team favorite. The feel is stretchy and soft, no chaffing, and they fit great through the hips and butt for a curvy body.
Here’s a true testament to their durability: One of our team members hiked Mount St. Helen’s four times in these pants and they never let her down!
One reason the Prana Halle’s are a TMM favorite is they come in lengths that are sure to fit just about every body type. Prana is doing a good job trying to reach a wide range of women’s bodies so we love the full range of sizes.
The Prana Halle is also available in regular, short, long and plus sizes at REI.
Sizes Available: Regular 00-16, Short 00-16, Tall 00-16
For the really petite women, I recommend Prana pants. Their 0, XS and 00 are the smallest technical pants I have found, other brands run larger in those sizes.

Title Nine Scout High Rise Ankle Pant
These loose leg pants are great for hiking, climbing, and travel. Made with their Brash Ripstop Cotton fabric, these pants are ready for anything. They are also super quick to dry!
Available in regular and petite sizing and a variety of colors.
Sizes Available: Regular XS-XL and Petite XS-XL
They are super lightweight (love the material) and comfortable. I love the tie waist (so no buttons) and it’s just stretchy and sits right. I think the style with the cropped and flared cut is super cute to wear hiking or even day-to-day (can’t say that about most of my hiking pants!) They are also super quick dry so perfect to wear waterfall chasing. I’ve been wearing them nonstop for the past few months and they are holding up great too!

Title Nine Strickland Barrell Pants
These pants are ready for anything. The DWR coating repels water and the 4-way stretch moves with you. They are a high rise pant and the bottom opening can be cinched as well.
Sizes Available: XS-XL
I wouldn’t say that they are particularly attractive and I don’t feel like they have much of a barrel shape, but they are comfy and lightweight. The fit is good, so I don’t think it would change how I feel about them to have a different size.

Title Nine Cordillera Hiking Pants
Made out of the beloved ClambR fabric, these pants are ready for whatever you throw at them.
Sizes Available: XS-XL
These are basically a lightweight cargo pant. Fit kind of baggy, lots of secure pockets, waist band is super comfy, they’re breathable and durable. Not really my style but I think the younger crowd is into it! These are probably better for longer legs/taller people.

Best Hiking Shorts for Women
Title Nine Clamber Short – Team Favorite!
To be honest, most of us love all things Clamber from Title Nine here and their shorts are no exception. A wide stretchy waistband makes these a comfy bottom for curvy and straight bodies alike.
These shorts are also great under a backpack or kid-carrier thanks to the wide, stretchy waistband.
Theses shorts are so durable as well. These are the ones I reach for the most. I got my first pair back in April 2021 and they are still going strong, maybe a little faded but no major wear otherwise for being worn as much as they are, I now have 4 pairs that I rotate through and I always get asked where I got these shorts from.
They are a little pricey but watch for sales and sometimes e-mails have bonus coupons. Once you grab a pair, you won’t want any other short.
They’re available in a 5″ inseam and a 10″ inseam.
Sizes Available: 2-14

Title Nine Corderilla Hiking Shorts
Another pair of bottoms made in our favorite ClambR fabric. The flat waistband give these shorts a flattering look and 3″ inseam. Team Member Amanda has been loving these shorts and here is what she has to say:
They are super, super comfortable, and look good. I have tried them for climbing, riding my bike around town, and walking.
What I love: they look great, are comfortable, and the pockets are convenient. I really like the zip pocket for my wallet. I am really excited for backpacking with them because I think they are about the length I prefer for backpacking shorts. I can’t emphasize enough how comfortable these are for walking around. The fabric is a little stretchy, which is great.
What I don’t love: The inseam is too short to be useful for many of the things I do. It’s like swimsuit length inseam instead of shorts-length. I feel a little exposed in it. They ride up when I’m sitting in the car, were a disaster with a climbing harness (predictably), and are not great on a bicycle.
I find myself hesitating to wear them because I bike around town on a daily basis. If you carry a cellphone all the time (especially a smartphone), they will be a problem for that, as the pockets aren’t really deep enough – so you may need a bag. This is partly due to the short length. I am a fairly low-tech person (for being a science professor and smartphone owner), so I rarely carry my phone on my person. Thus, that doesn’t matter to me.

Sizes Available: XS-XL

Brooks Chaser 5″ Shorts
The Brooks Chaser 5″ shorts offer just a little more coverage, but don’t be fooled – these aren’t your grandma’s shorts!
The sweat-wicking fabric and mesh liner give them a super light feel. The slits on the sides keep them from feeling tight, and are perfect if you’ve got muscular thighs. The waistband is wide and flat and the fit is mid-rise.
The Brooks Chaser is avilable in 3″, 5″, and 7″ lengths.
Sizes Available: XS-XXL
